Stephanie Petagno is a sculptor and costume designer whose work conveys identity via spectacle. Her costumes actualize characters for site-specific and immersive environments while engaging a personal dialogue with materiality. In her recent work, Stephanie has sought to challenge class and economy as an installation of fabric pattern, shapes, and complex mask-work.
Stephanie’s recent collaborations at CalArts include new works, There Be Dragons, Wald, as well as the adaptation of Chekhov’s short story, In The Ravine. Additional recent projects include Simon Parker’s Yellow Fever, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as The Wilderness’s The Day Shall Declare It for its US premiere at Imperial Arts Studios in Los Angeles.
Stephanie was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to work with Ironhead Studio as a specialty costume fabricator for Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Before coming to CalArts, Stephanie assisted Obie Award-winning costume designer David Reynoso for Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More in New York City. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Maryland Institute, College of Art.
