Chika Shimizu is a scenic designer, living passionately for theatre, opera, dance, and music. Born in Japan and raised in an embroidery factory with her family, a love for stories inspired her in becoming a children’s book writer. After obtaining a B.A. in Theatre Arts, Design and Technical Production from California State University, Fullerton, Chika finds being a scenic designer the most exciting opportunity in expressing her imagination through her craftsmanship.
Chika is a third-year MFA candidate at Yale School of Drama, where she designed the sets for THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE (Yale Rep); TWELFTH NIGHT, OR WHAT YOU WILL, THE VISIT (Yale School of Drama), and DON’T BE TOO SURPRISED, MUZEUM (Yale Cabaret).
